We wish to thank Monika Lewis for her inspiration in requesting us to address the topic of implementing your testimony in the job search.

Implementing your testimony can be an unique approach in addressing the job search. Your spiritual testimony is a very personal experience and with the right amount of thought and transferring applicable points to your future employer can make a world of difference.

How does one utilize their testimony in the job search? What similarities provide that unique "bridge" between the two issues? How can the testimony provide that unique insight to the employer of your potential?

Let's take the process step-by-step. Let's take your testimony and determine its' unique points and how it can be of assistance to your prospective employer. First, meditate on the who, what, where and when of your testimony. Describe on paper how the Lord delivered you from being an unbeliever to a believer. What were the elements of that conversion? Describe your past beliefs and value system before and after your conversion. When you are committing your testimony to paper, it will be easier to use an overview format and bullet point. This assist with the focus of designing the testimony. Likewise do the same for the desired elements you are looking for in a job or a new career transition.

You'll find that the items you're describing in the job or career transition will be similar to the points pertaining to the testimony. Utilize the Lord as the Captain of your ship as you are going through this process. By utilizing daily prayer and seeking His Word, you will be given that unique guidance. He will keep you focused on His will and how you can best apply your skills and abilities in your role as a disciple for Christ; yes even in the workplace!

The first draft of your testimony might be as much as five pages in length. This will be your master template in customizing your testimony for the numerous positions you are seeking. As positions make themselves known, you can then edit your testimony to address the unique skills and abilities needed for those positions. Convey to the employer the similarities of your testimony and the items requested on the job description.

When you are submitting your testimony to a prospective employer make sure that it is no longer than two pages in length. Describe your testimony in a passionate and committed tone. Let the employer know that not only you will be a committed employee, but also have the heart that relates to the position. You can discuss other items of the testimony at the interview.

The best way, obviously to get your testimony noticed, is to apply to Christian owned and operated businesses. These employers can best relate to your testimony along with your skills and abilities. Christian employers tell us they are looking not only for qualified skilled Christian employees, but also ones that convey their hearts and love for the Lord.

Understand that in most cases you should not use your testimony for secular businesses. Applying for positions at churches, ministries, Christian organizations, or Christian managed businesses is your best opportunity.

Your testimony should be include a customize cover letter and resume. You will be at least noticed and considered a unique candidate. One who puts their faith in front of their skills and abilities. Christian employers' should sit up and take notice of your unique testimony. We encourage you to submit your testimony anywhere from one to two pages in length depending upon the position targeted.

We ask the Lord to direct you in your unique situation and convey His desires for your employment. May God bless you in the job search.
